Stage one of the long awaited upgrade to the Village Play Park was completed in October 2008. The Friends of Coll Play Park and Development Coll joined forces to refurbish the the Village Play Park. Together they raised over £13,000 and were able to purchase and install a modern safe climbing frame and a mock 'pirate ship', that will be enjoyed by all of the children of Coll as well as visitors to the Island.
The day of the opening was wet and wild, preventing our guest of honor Mrs Janet Stewart arriving in time for the official opening. However Moira Macintyre and Fiona Kennedy stepped in with the sissors, and it was a heartwarming sight to see the children flooding into the Play Park to enjoy the new equipment. The Fire Brigade kindly allowed the fire station to be the base for the afternoon events providing shelter for people to enjoy soup, sandwiches, cakes and mulled wine. Mrs Steward did eventually arrive on Coll and was delighted to see the progress that had been made, she also made an extremely generous donation which allow phase two of the refurbishment project to go ahead. The plan is to install a See - Saw and also to improve the general landscaping of the area, with the addition of some raised flower beds. Having received further funding in March 09 , the new equipment should be installed this summer.
A Partnership Agreement between the Community and the Argyll and Bute Council has been signed, which will mean that they have taken on the responsibility for insurance and maintenance. .
